Melodic Minor Scales
Ascending: raised 6th and 7th. Descending: back to natural minor
The melodic minor scale is unique: it changes depending on direction. Ascending, both the 6th and 7th degrees are raised. Descending, it reverts to natural minor. This came about historically to smooth out the awkward augmented second leap in harmonic minor - especially when singing.
